World Record in DSBF finals Monday

Four $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) final events for 2-year-olds were contested on a rich Monday program at Harrington Raceway.
The most impressive winner came in the 2-year-old pacing colt Final when Legacy Racing of DE, Niel Gargiulo and Louie Paglierani’s Powerful Mist ($2.60, Jim Morand) equaled the world record for 2-year-old pacing colts on a half-mile racetrack with a 1:53 front-end win over Three Martinis and Green Olives. The Powerful Toy colt improved to 6-for-11 lifetime for trainer Wayne Givens.
Meanwhile, in the filly pacing final, Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm’s Badlands Jenna ($3, Ben Stafford Jr.) completed a sweep of the DSBF races with a 1:56 win. Trained by Ben Stafford, the Badlands Hanover filly pulled first over towards the half-mile and was an easy winner over Allie Oakley and Final Executive.
A mild upset occurred in the final for trotting colts after favorite First Captain broke stride early, Art Stafford and Art Stafford Jr.’s Smart Strike ($11.60, Art Stafford Jr.) was a wire-to-wire winner over Big Award and It’s All Good Jack. Trained by Art Stafford Jr., the Political Briefing gelding earned his first lifetime win.
Serendipity Stable’s Political Starlet ($3.40, Ross Shand) completed a sweep of her DSBF events with a wire-to-wire triumph in the filly trotting final for trainer Tui Stone. The Political Briefing filly was an easy three length winner over SBS Commando and Lady Alicia.
In the weekly overnight feature, the $22,000 Open pace, Baron Racing and David Rovine’s Giddy Up Lucky ($2.10, Eric Goodell) was an impressive winner in 1:51.1.
